DAVAO CITY—The Davao City Durians chess team made a splash in the Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) Meet in Tagum City, Davao del Norte after winning eight medals in the tournament and participated in the top young chess players in Region 11.
The team coached by Irwin Dango Aton won five gold medals in the tournament.
The golds were provided by Aaron Aton, a student of Mental Elementary Schools for individual blitz; Aton and Lance Lao in the blitz and standard events; and Hannah Segara in the individual standard and individual blitz.
The other medals are silver and bronze.
With their wins, Lao, and Segara got slots to compete in the Palarong Pambansa in Metro Manila later this year. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
