According to the latest data from the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines, three of the veteran players of the Davao Eagles chess team have made it to the top 25 players in the professional chess tournament.
Former national chess youth champion National Master (NM) Jonathan Tan ranked number 20 with 21 wins, two draws, and five defeats for 34.5 points.
NM Alexader Lupian ranked 24th with 18 wins, four draws, and 12 defeats for 32.6 points.
Arene Grand Master AGM and former DLSU college chess varsity member Joy Acedo ranked 25th with 20 wins, two draws, and four defeats for 32 points.
At the moment, After 15 games, the veteran-laden Davao City Eagles chess team is now the second-ranked team in the 10 team PCAP tournament 2022 Southern division. The Eagles won their two matches on February 16 to improve to 11-4 in the tournament. The Eagles beat Cagayan 13-8 and Caloocan 12-9 to get 198.5 points. The team dubbed Davao Chess Wizards joined the PCAP Premier Cup tournament last year as a guest team where they were able to reach the quarterfinals round. This year, the team is focused and prepared to win the PCAP crown with a formidable line-up made up mostly of veteran chess players who carried the flag of the city in local, national, and international chess tournaments. Leading the team is World chess champion for the differently-abled Sander Severino, veteran chess coach Roel Abelgas, DPWH engineer Aglipay Oberio, Panabo City, Davao del Norte NM Henry Lopez, Philippine chess team coach for the differently-abled James Infiesto, Allan Diez, Arnel Iton, Anthony Mosqueda, Cris Yap, Atty. Jong Guevarra, Nap Recosoca, and Mary Segara.With a veteran and strong roster, the Eagles are predicted to once again barge the PCAP playoffs this year and go for the crown if luck permits.
