2 dead, 14 injured in South Cotabato road tragedy
DAVAO CITY---Two people died, and 14 others were severely injured in a road accident in Purok 1, Barangay Poblacion, Tupi, South Cotabato, around 5:47 p.m. on September 23.

An Isuzu ten-wheeler truck with license plate number MAA 3748 and owned by  DSO Global Distribution Inc. based in Koronadal City and operated by Albert Zambrano, 26 years old, resident of Purok Upper Malaya, Barangay Poblacion, Tantangan, South Cotabato, hit 13 cars consisting of three SUVs, five motorcycles, a top-down vehicle, a bus, and three pick-up trucks.

Records from Tupi PNP showed the truck was traveling from General Santos City towards Koronadal City when it lost its brakes and hit the cars in front of it.

According to Tupi MDRRMO, Action Officer Emil Sumagaysay among those injured are four students.

While some of the injured were sent to South Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Koronadal City and are currently being monitored, others were taken immediately to Tupi Municipal Hospital.

The vehicle's driver is in the custody of Tupi PNP, while the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
