The SC en banc has denied with finality the motions for reconsideration contesting the said law.
"We consider this latest High Court ruling a triumph for all peace-loving and law-abiding Filipinos," Presidential Communications Secretary and Acting Presidential Spokesperson Sec. Martin M. Andanar said in a statement.
Andanar said the law now serves as a stern warning against malevolent elements that the Philippines is not a safe haven for terrorists.
In a briefer released by the Higher Court, it said the petitioners lacked substantial issues and arguments, which prompted the members to deny such motions.
In December 2021, the Court declared two provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act as unconstitutional, particularly Section 4 for being overbroad and violative of freedom of expression, as well as Section 25, which authorizes the Anti-Terror Council to designate a person or a group as terrorists as per the request of other countries.
Also, 26 out of the 37 petitioners filed a joint motion for partial reconsideration before the SC, highlighting the “exceedingly transcendental importance of the matter at hand and how it impacts on the sacred values enshrined in our Constitution.”
