The insurance covers drivers and operators involved in vehicular accidents, unprovoked murders or assaults. They are also entitled to receive P5, 000 accidental or burial assistance and P150 per day hospital allowance for 60-day period.
On top of these, the insurance program selected by the Evangelista administration for the pedicab drivers also cover hospital benefits for COVID-19 cases.
For her part, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office officer-in-charge Leilani Mae Rafol said the distribution of insurance cards is scheduled on December 8 at the Municipal Covered Court. The program includes blood-letting activity and a training on First Aid and Disaster Response aimed at equipping the beneficiaries on how to respond to road accidents.
The insurance coverage of pedicab drivers and operators will expire on November 2022, according to Rafol.
Rafol added that MSWDO conducted a week-long registration of the personal insurance program for pedicab drivers and operators and only 425 manifested to avail until the last day of registration.
Meanwhile, Municipal Administrator Atty. Elisa Evangelista said the insurance program for the transport sector aims to help ease the emotional distress and financial burden of the pedicab drivers and operators during the current state of a public health emergency.
She said the Evangelista administration is stepping up any efforts to support our Tomasino pedicab drivers and their families as possible and provide them peace of mind during times of health emergency and financial uncertainty.
She added that the operations of pedicab drivers and operators remain under the helm of Vice-Mayor Gabriel Eric Estela being the chair of the Municipal Tricycle Franchising Regulatory Board (MTRFB), who is at the same time the head of Legislative Branch.
The Executive Branch had long been requesting the leadership of the MTFRB to transfer the management of the program under the Mayor's Office being the implementing arm of the programs, projects, and activities of the Santo Tomas LGU but to no avail.
