355 former drug users in Santo Tomas completed rehabilitation and aftercare
DAVAO CITY —A total of 355 persons who used drugs (PUWDs) in Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte have chosen to revitalize their personal lives after undergoing a Community-Based Rehabilitation Aftercare Program (CBRAP) being implemented by the administration of Mayor Ernesto Evangelista.

"Kining CBRAP dako kini mahimong tabang sa mga drug reformists nato dinhi sa atong lungsod kay mahatagan sila og bagong opportunidad na ma-reintegrate sa atong komunidad ug ilahang ma-rebuild ang ilahang mga kinabuhi na layo sa dautang impluwensya sa illegal na druga,” Evangelista said.

 

CBRAP is spearheaded by the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) which operates in various barangays in this municipality. 

 

The Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council serves as a focal point with various organizations and individuals who work together cooperatively in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs, projects and activities on drug abuse prevention. 

 

Of the 355, Barangay Kimamon topped the list with 95 PWUDs followed by Barangay Kinamayan with 91 PUWDs, Barangay La Libertad with 51 PUWDs, Barangay Lunga-og with 37 PUWDs, Barangay Casig-ang with 34 PUWDs, Barangay New Katipunan with 29 PUWDs, and Barangay Bobongon with 18 PUWDs. 

 

To fully combat the proliferation of illegal drugs, the Evangelista administration has strengthened its collaboration with the various national government agencies to undertake reformative measures to transform and rebuild the lives of recovering drug dependents.

 

The CBRAP ceremony held on February 27, 2022 was attended by officials from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Santo Tomas LGU officials headed by Mayor Ernesto Evangelista, Councilor Ronald Dimaya, Punong Barangay Ricky Inodioan, Police Major Rodante Varona, Chief of Police Santo Santo Tomas PNP, among others. 

 

Evangelista said all drug reformists were coached on rehabilitation and life coaching training program where graduates will continue to have training in skills development that will be conducted by the Santo Tomas LGU. 

 

He added that his administration is closely working with intelligence and anti-narcotics operatives from the PNP and PDEA to strengthen and intensify anti-illegal drug operations here.
