Davao Light to undergo ISO 55001 certification
DAVAO CITY – The AboitizPower Distribution Utility, Davao Light and Power Co., Inc will go through an audit with a certifying body to obtain the ISO 55001 Asset Management System (AMS) standard.

Davao Light Reputation Enhancement Manager Fermin Edillon in a statement said the ISO 55001 is an asset management system standard with the main objective of helping organizations manage the life cycle of assets more effectively.

Edillon said by implementing this, organizations will have better control over daily activities, achieve higher returns on their assets, and reduce the total cost of risk.

He said since Davao Light has assets to manage in order to deliver its promise, which is to provide reliable and ample power supply to its customers, it plans to be certified with the AMS standard.

For his part, Davao Light President Engr. Rodger Velasco said once the electric utility gets certified, it will improve its operational efficiency, asset information accuracy, utilization of network assets, network availability and reliability, asset risk management, regulatory compliance, and enhance organizational capability.

“We are aiming to be ISO 55001 certified by the 4th quarter of the year. Early this year, we conducted orientations per department and training has already started to meet the timelines of this project,” Velasco said in the same statement.

An internal audit exercise was also conducted to determine the conformity of Davao Light’s AMS to the requirements of ISO 55001:2014 standard for Asset Management System, determine whether the AMS conforms to the organization’s own requirement for its AMS, determine whether the established AMS is effectively implemented and maintained, identify opportunities, nonconformities, opportunities for improvements for the established AMS, and assess the readiness of the organization for the AMS certification audit.

In 2020, Davao Light attained its re-certification for the ISO 9001:2015 or the Quality Management System (QMS) and passed the surveillance audit for ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management System and ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management (EM) System as part of maintaining the quality service that it provides to the customers it serves.
