Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai rules DAPRISAA secondary chess tourney

DAVAO CITY—The Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School won the secondary boy and girl chess categories in the Davao Association of Private Schools and Administrators, Incorporated (DAPRISAA) on January 28–29 at the YMCA building at Villamor Street, Jacinto Extension, this city.

In the individual girl's category, Nathalie Suter of Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School won the gold after scoring five points in the five rounds of a 30-minute and 30-second time control tournament.

Suter is the daughter of veteran radio broadcaster Jhun Suter.

In the boy's category, Arlton Lance Diaz, also from the Philippine Nekkei Jin Kai International School, emerged as champion with 4.5 points.

In the elementary category, Bern Dimaandal, of Davao City SDA School, and the child of PDEA 11 spokesperson Noli Dimaandal, won the gold medal in the boy's category.

Veteran arbiter Ronnie Tabudlong officiated the tournament.

The champions in the tournament and the runner-ups got a slot to compete in the Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
