“Fake” dentist arrested in Davao Oriental

Agents from Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested an unlicensed dentist, who has reportedly practiced illegally and operated a clinic in an entrapment in Mati City, Davao Oriental on Monday, July 11.

CIDG in its report Tuesday said an alias Renz (not his real name for security reasons), a resident of Amethyst St., Lot 69, Blk 2, Phase 1, Deca Homes Esperanza, Tigatto, Buhangin, Davao City was nabbed around 3:30 p.m inside a hotel at Sitio Madang Barangay Central, Mati City of said province. 

Renz was caught actively engaging in an illegal practice of dentistry like making braces to several patients without authority from Philippine Dental Association (PDA).

He was arrested by CIDG Davao Oriental backed by Regional Special Operating Team (RSOT) and Mati City Police for violation of Republic Act 9484 or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007.

Recovered from the suspect were various dental equipment and materials such as assorted elastics, orthodontic brackets, mouth retractors, and orthodontic wires.

The seized items are used for orthodontic treatments or braces.

Arrested suspect is now detained at CIDG Davao Oriental Field Office while awaiting the formal filing of charges for violating the said law after he failed to produce a certificate of registration, professional identification card, and a special permit to prove his professional legitimacy.
