In a press conference, PRO 11 regional director Brig. Gen. Benjamin Silo Jr., said he requested for the suspension of permit to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR) in the whole Davao Region even if the inauguration is only here in the city, to ensure that no privately owned firearms could reach here.
“Kapag na-control natin yung pagdadala ng baril, napakalaking bagay ito sa pagsisigurado na maging mapayapa ang holding ng inauguration ni Mam Sara (If we control the movement of firearms, it would be a big thing in ensuring the peaceful conduct of inauguration of Mam Sara),” he said.
Silo said they also mounted boarder checkpoints in some provinces near other regions such as Northern Mindanao, Socksargen and Caraga region to check on persons who are possibly bringing guns.
“We will be having very strict boarder checkpoints, we identified 10 particular locations na pwedeng pasukan from other regions. From there, hihigpitan na namin lahat ng baril hindi na namin papapasukin,” he said.
He said the gun ban was requested by the office of the PNP officer-in-charge as part of the security measures for the inauguration and its implementation started on midnight of June 16 and will end on June 21.
Silo said he also coordinated with neighboring PRO of Northern Mindano, Socksargen and Caraga for to help them spread the implementation in the region.
