Santo Tomas LGU distributes honorarium to Barangay Tanods

DAVAO CITY —Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte Mayor Ernesto Evangelista led the distribution of the honorarium for all barangay tanods from 19 barangays as part of his administration’s support and recognition to the efforts and services they made in maintaining peace and order in their respective barangays.

The distribution of honararium for barangay tanods was held at the Municipal Covered court on Thursday (Nov.18). A total of 80 barangay tanods from Barangay New Visayas, Magwawa, Tibal-og, and San Jose received P1,500 each for their rendered services for the third quarter.

Other barangay tanods received the same amount as scheduled this week.

"Dako akong pasalamat sa tanang barangay tanod kay sila ang hanimong partner pud nato sa Santo Tomas LGU sa pag-implementar sa atong COVID-19 Response sa matag barangay (I really thanked these barangay tanods because they are our partners in implementing our COVID-19 Response in each barangay,” he said.

Evangelista was joined by Punong Barangay of Tibal-og and Vice-Mayoral bet Ricky Inodioan, who thanked the Evangelista administration for showing concern and support to all barangay tanods in the municipality of Santo Tomas.

It was only under the Evangelista administration where barangay tanods received honorarium from the Santo Tomas LGU as outlined under his “Aksyon Ang Solusyon” program.

The barangay tanods were required to submit their daily time record (DTR), individual accomplishment report, authority to serve and consolidated report, which their Punong Barangays will sign.

Also, Evangelista said, as a way of more support, he wants to give barangay tanods better financial incentives in recognition of their efforts.

The mayor said that barangay tanods do not enjoy much benefits from performing their mandate of addressing the day-to-day issues of their communities.

The local chief executive added that his proposal to increase the honorarium of barangay tanods was “to recognize their contribution to the holistic and effective governance in their respective barangays.”

For his part, Vice-Mayoral bet Ricky Inodioan, who also serves as the ABC President, agreed to the proposal of Evangelista, saying that barangay tanods should be empowered since they are at the forefront of government service in the barangay. (Armando Fenequito)
