600 NPA supporters surrender in Bulacan

DAVAO CITY- Some 600 former members of a communist front organization in Bulacan have surrendered and vowed allegiance to the government in a ceremony held Wednesday (Feb. 9).

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Dionardo Carlos considered the withdrawal of the members of Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) from the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) as a major leap towards achieving a peaceful community.

The Regional Mobile Force Batallion 3 in Bulacan facilitated the mass exodus which was highlighted through the signing of the Oath of Allegiance, denouncing terrorism.

“We hope that with this activity, all the other groups affiliated with communist or terrorist groups will follow suit. Their withdrawal from the CPP-NPA shows that they have a weak force,” Carlos said in a statement.

He said the PNP vows to monitor their security as the possibility for threat and intimidation is still apparent.

Carlos gave assurance that those who pledged to dissociate themselves from the CPP-NPA will be taken care of.

“Their act is a display of confidence for the government, so we will prove to them that they made the right decision,” Carlos said.

He said the surrender of the group is a result of the unceasing effort to intensify the peace engagement in the communities.
