COAST GUARD ARRESTS 6 ILLEGAL COMPRESSOR FISHERS IN DAVAO ORIENTAL
The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), through the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Governor Generoso, alongside Coast Guard Intelligence Unit (CGIU) Southeastern Mindanao and the Bantay Dagat of the Municipality of Governor Generoso, apprehended six persons engaged in illegal compressor fishing during a joint maritime law enforcement operation conducted approximately 500 meters off the shoreline of Barangay Pundaguitan, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.
The operation commenced at approximately 5:00 PM on 21 July 2026 and continued overnight until 5:40 AM on 22 July 2026 as part of intensified efforts to enforce fisheries and environmental laws and curb illegal fishing activities. The apprehended individuals were found violating Municipal Ordinance No. 04, Series of 2006, which prohibits the use of compressor fishing within the municipality.
While conducting a joint seaborne patrol, the operating team detected suspicious fishing activities and intercepted the suspects as they were returning from their fishing operation. A subsequent inspection confirmed the use of an illegal compressor apparatus, resulting in the apprehension of the six fishermen. Authorities also confiscated one (1) compressor set, air hoses, and other fishing paraphernalia used in the unlawful activity.
At approximately 5:50 AM on 22 July 2026, the joint operating team proceeded to the Port of Monserrat, Barangay Monserrat, Governor Generoso. By 8:30 AM, the apprehended individuals, together with their motor banca, catch, and fishing equipment, were turned over to the Municipal Agriculture Office for the proper filing of legal and administrative cases.
