5 Omicron cases detected in Davao Region include a Davao City resident: DOH-Davao

One of the five Omicron cases detected in Davao Region is a resident of Davao City, report from the Department of Health -Davao yesterday (Jan. 19) showed.

DOH-Davao Center for Health Development in its report however confirmed all the five Omicron cases have fully recovered. 

 The one from Davao City is listed by DOH as Case # 2 . She is 27 years old and a Returning Overseas Filipino (ROF).  She arrived from Singapore last December 18, 2021. The sample was collected last December 21, 2021 and was processed at SPMC Molecular Laboratory. She was tagged fully recovered last January 2, 2022. 

 Case # 1 involves  a  23-year old male ROF who was swabbed at Philippine Red Cross Clark Molecular Laboratory. The sample was collected on December 18,2021. He is now in his residence at Davao del Sur.

 Case #3 is a 44-year old male, fully vaccinated, an ROF who arrived from United Kingdom last December 22, 2021. He completed his 14-day isolation in Manila before travelling to Davao Region. His sample was collected last December 26, 2021 and was processed at First Aide Diagnostic Center in NCR. He is a resident of Davao del Norte. 

 Case #4 is a 28-year old female, fully vaccinated, a local resident of Davao Occidental with no history of International Travel. She was swabbed for RTPCR testing last December 11,2021 and specimen was processed at SPMC Molecular Laboratory. Her specimen was sent to UP-PGC last December 23, 2021.

 And Case #5 is a 63-year old male, fully vaccinated, a local resident of Davao Occidental with no history of International Travel. She was swabbed for RTPCR testing last December 16, 2021 and specimen was processed at SPMC Molecular Laboratory. His specimen was sent to UP-PGC last December 23, 2021.

 The cases were detected after 35 specimens  were sent last December 23 and 29, 2022 to the University of the Philippines- Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC) and two more who were tested in other regions.

 “The five Omicron variant cases have been tagged as recovered upon the release of Whole-Genome Sequencing (WGS) report. Three of these cases are Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF) while the other two have no history of any travel outside the country,” DOH-Davao said. 

 DOH Davao said it  is closely working with the concerned Local Government Units to conduct intensive case investigation to ensure that isolation period is completed and all close contacts were adequately identified and completed quarantine, and that eligible samples for sequencing are submitted. 

 It further said that a re-testing will be done but re-quarantine is no longer necessary unless the case is symptomatic upon location. For the respective LGUs of the non-OFW cases, they are currently back tracing to determine their exposures and travel histories, DOH-Davao added.  (BY JUDY QUIROS)
