The Davao City Police Office (DCPO), through Police Station 5 – Buhangin arrested a foreign national for Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Physical Injury following a vehicular incident on March 27, 2026, in Barangay Buhangin, Davao City.

The suspect was identified as Alias Erik, 32 years old, a Finnish national and current resident of Midland Valley Homes, Kalasungay, Bukidnon.

He was arrested after a traffic-related incident involving a traffic enforcer.

Investigation revealed that at around 11:30 AM, a traffic enforcer flagged down the suspect along Km. 6, Milan, Buhangin for driving against the flow of traffic. Instead of complying, the suspect deliberately ignored lawful instructions, continued driving forward, and struck the enforcer on the right shoulder before fleeing toward the northbound direction.

A prompt and coordinated pursuit operation was conducted by the traffic enforcer, with assistance from the Mobile Patrol Unit (MPU) and the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO). The suspect was successfully intercepted along Maharlika Highway, Tibungco, Davao City.

The suspect, together with the vehicle he was operating—a Toyota Revo Wagon—was brought to Buhangin Police Station for proper disposition. He was informed of his constitutional rights in a language known to him and is currently under police custody.

On March 28, 2026, the suspect was formally charged before the Office of the City Prosecutor in Ecoland, Davao City, for violation of Republic Act 10952 and Article 151 (Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority) under docket number XI-02-INQ-C-0976, and for Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Physical Injury under docket number XI-02-INQ-C-0975.

Reckless imprudence, as defined under Philippine law, involves acts done without intent but with inexcusable lack of precaution, resulting in harm to others . Such negligence, especially on the road, endangers lives and carries both criminal and civil liabilities.

STRONG PUBLIC SAFETY REMINDER

The DCPO strongly emphasizes that road safety is a shared responsibility. Motorists are reminded that:

• Obedience to traffic laws is not optional—it is a legal obligation.

• Ignoring traffic enforcers and fleeing the scene aggravates liability and puts lives at greater risk.

• In the event of a violation or accident, cooperating with authorities and voluntarily surrendering is always the safest and most lawful course of action.

Failure to comply with traffic rules does not only result in penalties—it can lead to serious injury, loss of life, and criminal prosecution. Responsible driving, discipline, and respect for authority are essential in maintaining peace and order on our roads.

The DCPO through the leadership of Colonel Mannan Muarip reiterates its unwavering commitment to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring the safety of all road users. Strict measures will continue to be implemented against individuals who endanger public safety through reckless and irresponsible behavior.
