Sen. Bong Go supports electrical engineering profession through Senate bill: “Innovation, sustainability and resilience are necessities”

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, on Friday, August 29, paid tribute to the country’s electrical engineers for their role in the country’s growth and progress during the 26th Southern Mindanao Regional Conference of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) of the Philippines held in Davao City.

“Allow me first to commend your organization for reaching a remarkable milestone — IIEE at 50 years — a testament to your enduring commitment to integrity, innovation, empowerment, and excellence,” Go told an audience composed of an estimated 800 electrical engineers.

The senator added that electrical engineers directly impact the lives of millions of millions of Filipinos from ensuring safe and reliable energy systems to advancing technological development.

“Kayo po ang tumutulong upang umusad ang ating bayan tungo sa mas maayos, mas ligtas, at mas maunlad na kinabukasan,” Go said.

Senator Go urged the members of the IIEE to continue leading with integrity, pushing boundaries with innovation, and serving our people with compassion and excellence.

He then thanked the officials of the IIEE led by its National President Engr. Alberto Herrera Jr., former President Engr. Florigo Varona, Davao Chapter President Engr. Moises Male II, Vice President for Internal Affairs Engr. Robert Mabulay, Vice President for External Affairs Engr. Adrian Rey, Vice President for Technical Affairs Engr. Cleofe Caidic, Secretary Enr. Jeddper de Castro, Treasurer Engr. Justo Maj. Lopez Jr., and Auditor Engr. Nelson Andres.

Senator Go, in the same event, acknowledged the regional governors present, namely, Engr. Floyd Gamad of Southern Mindanao, Engr. Marlon Parot of Western Mindanao, Engr. Alvin Estanislao of Central Luzon, Engr. Jovenie Tagatac of Metro Manila, Engr. Malou Umali of Southern Luzon, Engr. Marlon Balbuena of Western Visayas, Engr. With a rapidly changing world and advances in technology, the lawmaker believed that the next generation of electrical engineers should develop the values of innovation, sustainability, and resilience.

In this regard, Senator Go filed on August 27, 2025 Senate Bill No. 1282, or the proposed Electrical Engineering Act of 2025, which if enacted, seeks to enhance the practice of electrical engineering in the Philippines by instituting higher standards for licensure and professional regulation.

“Layunin po nito mai-update na ang batas para sa electrical engineering na naisabatas noon pang 1995. Hangarin natin na mapalakas ang inyong propesyon at matiyak na patuloy tayong makakasabay sa pandaigdigang pamantayan lalo na sa teknolohiya at makabagong panahon,” Go explained.

In addition, the senator vowed to continue supporting initiatives that empower professionals like the electrical engineers.

“Patuloy po nating pagtutulungan ang pagbuo ng mga polisiya at programa na magpapatatag sa ating mga industriya at magbibigay ng mas maraming oportunidad sa ating workforce,” Go pointed out.
