At Eastern Asia Hotel, the fight of the young minds started. Young prodigies (boys and girls) from 16 nations, including Brunei, China, FIIDE (Russia), Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, are expected to show extreme antagonism: 32 named players and a total of 329 competitors.
Young gifted children from the ASEAN region will be able to demonstrate their cognitive prowess in this prestigious event. Their brilliant and sparkling intellect and psyche will then be highlighted in their competition over the 64 squares, wherein strategies and tactical combinations will play a crucial role in a victorious victory.
The Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richard E. Bachmann is thanked by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, led by Prospero A. Pichay Jr., a former congressman from Surigao Del Sur and currently the secretary general of the Lakas-CMD party.
"I am grateful to PSC Chairman Bachmann for the assistance being provided to our youth as chess is so popular in our country, knowing its roots, history, and legacy that has been accomplished so far," Pichay said.
The Chairman/President of NCFP added, "The Government's continued assistance will only benefit finding and identifying young Filipino talents and geniuses.
