PNP chief wants political aspirants to undergo drug testing

DAVAO CITY- The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Dionardo Carlos encourages all local and national candidates for 2022 elections to submit themselves to drug testing.

Carlos made the statement after President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday (November 18) revealed an information  about the alleged cocaine-using presidential aspirant.

Carlos , however, admitted that no law mandates the candidate to undergo a drug test, but doing so, according to him, will set an example to their fellow countrymen by proving they are not users of illegal drugs.

The Chief PNP said the president’s pronouncement prompted them to conduct an initial fact-finding.

“Kapag may mga pumapasok na mga relevant information sa amin, definitely we will conduct an investigation. As of this time, we are trying to get additional information on that matter,” Carlos said in a statement.

Carlos emphasized that the progress of this action will depend upon the sufficiency of the evidence.

Asked about arresting a person based on public disclosure, Carlos said, “A person with a history of drug use may be arrested if there is an outstanding warrant of arrest in connection with the drug offense.”
