The unity walk and signing of covenant which was facilitated by the Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) 11 were held at the Davao City Police Office headquarters, San Pedro St. this city on Tuesday, March 15.
Some religious sectors and media practitioners also participated in the covenant signing and promised to do their tasks to ensure a peaceful, orderly and honest elections.
The activity also served as reminders to all police officers to adhere to the guidelines cited in the Comelec Resolutions for the coming national and local elections.
Colonel Alberto Lupaz, the chief of Davao City Police Office emphasized the role of the police in the upcoming elections is to ensure peace and security and reminded them to remain non-partisan and refrain from any acts of political patronage.
RIAS 11 director Brigadier General Oscar Nantes, for his part, has warned police officers who will violate the guidelines cited in Comelec resolutions may result in administrative liability.
Comelec District 1 Election Officer Attorney Sittie Shahane Balt said she hopes for a peaceful and orderly polls with the help of the men and women in uniform.
She also urged the participants to always observe the minimum health standards provided by the inter-agency task force (IATF) as COVID-19 is still around.
Lupaz, meanwhile, said that they have not monitored and identified hotspot areas in the city, however, he said they are continuously intensifying their monitoring especially during the start of the local campaign on March 25.
“No monitored and identified hotspots area or areas of election concern in Davao City. But we are still monitoring the situation because the local campaign will start on March 25 and we will be strengthening our monitoring,” Lupaz said.
