The turnover ceremony was held at People’s Park at around 1 p.m., where the officials personally handed over 27 Honda XRM-125 and 27 Honda XR-150 motorcycles to barangay officials from Davao City’s First District.
Rep. Paolo Duterte said the motorcycles are intended to enhance barangay-level public safety operations by improving mobility and reducing response time during emergencies. He noted that the vehicles will be used for routine peace and order patrols, rapid response to incidents, and other urgent situations requiring immediate access within communities.
“Kining tabang para sa atong mga barangay usa ka pahinumdom nga kanunay ta magbinantayon sa pagpanalipod sa katawhan. Kung lig-on ang barangay, lig-on usab ang syudad. Mao ni among tumong—mas paspas nga responde ug mas luwas nga komunidad para sa tanan," he said.
Barangay 8-A Captain James Abadilla said the motorcycles will primarily be assigned to barangay tanods for regular roving and monitoring within their respective areas. He thanked the Dutertes for the assistance, describing the motorcycles as a timely Christmas gift that would directly strengthen local security operations.
Meanwhile, Barangay Talomo Captain Rene Alexis Villarente said the motorcycles would significantly improve their barangay’s capacity to respond to incidents, particularly because many areas are not directly accessible by four-wheeled vehicles.
“This is a big help to our barangay,” Villarente said. “Our barangay hall is not located along a main road, and many areas can only be reached through narrow streets and alleyways. On foot, response takes too long. With motorcycles, responders can reach incidents much faster.”
Villarente added that the motorcycles will be utilized for both emergency response and peace and order operations, including monitoring youth-related disturbances and pursuing individuals involved in criminal activities.
The officials said the distribution reflects continuing efforts to strengthen grassroots governance by equipping barangays with practical and efficient tools to ensure public safety and faster emergency response across Davao City.
