NDMU is Smart’s first SWEEP partner in Mindanao and has consistently integrated Smart’s technology initiatives into its engineering and IT programs, enabling students to stay at the forefront of digital innovation.
In previous years, NDMU students had the opportunity to visit Smart’s TechnoLab facility, where they engaged with experts and explored emerging technologies. The TechnoLab serves as a sandbox for the PLDT Group where game-changing communication solutions are tested to enhance customer experience and accelerate national digital transformation.
“For 21 years, Smart and NDMU have stood side-by-side, adapting to every technological shift—from 2G to 5G, and now, into the era of artificial intelligence. Your faculty and students are not just recipients of this knowledge; they are key partners in driving the nation’s digital transformation,” said Stephanie V. Orlino, AVP and Head of Stakeholder Engagement at PLDT and Smart.
The enduring collaboration highlights the shared commitment of Smart and NDMU to strengthen education and technology development in the region by preparing students with the skills needed for the jobs of the future.
NDMU President Brother Paterno S. Corpus expressed his appreciation for the long-standing partnership. He shared, “Thank you very much, Smart, for the SWEEP program and for being our partner for more than 20 years. We will continue to work with you as a university that always believes in improvement, because education means ensuring that our graduates learn things that are relevant and updated.”
As part of the renewed partnership, Smart and NDMU conducted a workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support faculty members in integrating AI tools into their teaching. This ensures that classrooms evolve alongside innovation, and that learning remains dynamic and future-ready.
“Technology is ever-evolving, and if we want to stay relevant as educators, we have to keep up. Programs like SWEEP empower us to embrace change, learn new tools like AI, and use them to make teaching and learning more effective,” said Dr. Joan P. Palma, Academic Vice President at NDMU.
Through initiatives like SWEEP, Smart advances PLDT Group’s broader commitment to digital inclusion and innovation in education, supporting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). PR
