In a report sent to News Fort, Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) chief Lieutenant General Alfredo Rosario Jr. said that the loose firearms are owned by members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team(BPAT) in said town.
The stenciling of loose firearms, he said, is aimed to account for unlicensed guns in a particular locality.
The Joint Task Force Basilan head Colonel Frederick Sales alongside local officials in Lamitan led the ceremonial stenciling of loose firearms held at the city gymnasium of said town.
Since September 2021, a total of 881 loose firearms were already stenciled in Basilan. Of the number, 229 were stenciled in Tipo-Tipo town on September 15, 75 in Tuburan last November 24, and 42 in Akbar onNovember 26.
“I am personally very proud of the success of this ongoing campaign of Joint Task Force Basilan. May the other units be inspired to adopt this campaign for this will greatly contribute to the overall campaign against loose firearms of the command,” Rosario said. (By Ruth Palo)
