Davao City readies third vaccination drive February 10,11

Davao City government aims to administer more booster doses during the third wave of its nationwide national vaccination drive dubbed “Bayanihan Bakunahan” on February 10 and 11, 2022.

City’ COVID-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser told the City Information Office (CIO) that they want to hasten the booster vaccination and achieve 100 percent herd immunity during the two day vaccination activity.

She said the first two `Bayanihan Bakunahan' in the city were based on achieving herd immunity, while the third wave will focus on the booster shots as there are still over a million fully vaccinated individuals who have not yet received the boosters.

Based on the city’s total population of 1,897,861, at least 65.76 percent of the 70 percent target population protection or herd immunity has already been achieved as of February 4, 2022, with 1,248,068 fully vaccinated Dabawenyos. Out of this number, only 181,757 have availed of the booster shots.

The city also recorded 1,289,103 administered first doses so far.

Schlosser, meanwhile, said that all vaccination hubs will target 12 years old and above to be inoculated.

If logistics such as special syringes and reformulated Pfizer anti-COVID-19 vaccines for the 5 to 11 years old vaccination rollout are ready by then, Schlosser said they might also be able to cater to them during the NVD.
