PSSO tightens monitoring at newly opened landfill site

The Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) said that they assigned personnel at the newly opened interim cell landfill site located in Barangay New Carmen, Tugbok District to deter scavenging activity amid Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) mandate.

PSSO Head Angel Sumagaysay said that the City Government of Davao dedicated personnel in the area and continues with a series of dialogues communities near the landfill.

"Usa ka mando sa DENR kay gi-open na ang atong temporary cell og didto nata naghulog og basura, dapat walay tao sa cell and scavengers. Dako ang [number sa] tao nga gi-dedicate didto, " he said.

He said that as their dialogue with the nearby barangays and communities continues and they continue to inform them of the hazards of entering the landfill.

"After the dialogue, people will understand that they are no longer allowed there, and they will be more cautious themselves and also inform their neighbors in the barangay that the area is already off-limits," he added.

Sumagaysay added that the dialogue and monitoring will continue indefinitely.

"Padayon ang dialogue, padayon ang pagbantay, hangtod sa naa pa'y nagpasaway diha kay delikado, " he said.

The City Government of Davao has opened a temporary cell as landfill starting June 17 as the  DENR ordered the permanent shutdown of the old sanitary landfill. The interim cell which forms part of the new sanitary landfill is complete and structurally ready to receive waste. CIO
