P22.5-M WORTH OF SMUGGLED CIGARETTES SEIZED IN DAVAO DEL NORTE

The Joint Task Force Sinaya (JTF SINAYA), together with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Mati, Davao Oriental conducted a Joint Maritime Law Enforcement Operation that resulted in the apprehension of M/V Nur Aira and its five crew on June 4, 2026, in the coastal waters of Lapas, Carmen, Davao del Norte.

During the operation, authorities discovered and confiscated approximately 900 master cases of smuggled Greenhill, Bosqu, Walton, and Cannon cigarettes onboard the apprehended vessel, amounting to an estimated street value of P 22.5 million.

Moreover, three individuals of the receiving party of these smuggled items were also apprehended aboard two  Nissan Navara pickup trucks, an Isuzu Travis L300 van, and two  container vans. The authorities also confiscated the following firearms found in their possession: Cal. 5.56 CMMG Banshee AK57 with two  magazines; Cal. 9mm Glock pistol with two magazines; 128 pieces of 9mm live ammunition; and 60 pieces of 5.56mm live ammunition.

The  apprehended watercraft, vehicles, firearms, smuggled cigarettes, and arrested personalities were under the custody of CIDG Mati, Davao Oriental, for proper investigation, legal procedures, and proper filing of cases.

The successful operation highlights the continuing commitment of JTF Sinaya in strengthening maritime security and intensifying efforts against illegal smuggling activities within the area of responsibility.
