Sen. Bong Go continues hospital feeding initiative to help patients, caregivers, and health workers

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go continues to sustain his hospital feeding initiative as a simple way of helping patients, their companions, and healthcare workers in public hospitals across the country.

According to Go, many Filipinos seeking treatment in government hospitals often have limited financial resources. In many cases, the money they bring is just enough—or sometimes not even enough—to cover transportation, medicines, laboratory tests, and other medical expenses, leaving little for food while staying in hospitals.

“Marami tayong kababayan na kapag may sakit ang mahal sa buhay, inuuna ang pambili ng gamot at iba pang gastusin sa ospital. Minsan, kulang na ang natitira para sa pagkain. Kaya kung may maiaabot tayong simpleng tulong tulad ng lugaw, ginagawa natin sa abot ng ating makakaya,” Go said.

As part of the initiative, the Malasakit Team distributed warm meals in several hospitals across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao from May 25 to 29.

Feeding activities were conducted at Margarito A. Duavit Memorial Hospital in Binangonan, Cainta Municipal Hospital in Cainta, Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Hospital in Rodriguez, and Antipolo City Hospital System Annex IV in Antipolo City, all in Rizal Province. The program also reached Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital in Bacoor City and General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

Lugaw was also distributed at Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City and Conrado Estrella Medical Center in Rosales, Pangasinan; Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City, La Union; Ilocos Provincial Hospital–Gabriela Silang in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur; Governor Roque Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Jose B. Lingad Memorial Hospital in San Fernando City and Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center in Angeles City, Pampanga.

In Visayas, the initiative reached Eastern Samar Provincial Hospital in Borongan City, Eastern Samar. Meanwhile, in Mindanao, feeding activities were conducted at Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City and Maramag Provincial Hospital in Maramag, Bukidnon.

Go noted that while the feeding initiative may be simple, it responds to a real need experienced by many families inside hospitals. He added that patients and caregivers often spend long hours waiting for consultations, treatments, or updates on their loved ones, making even a warm meal a welcome form of assistance.

The feeding initiative complements the services provided by Malasakit Centers in many government hospitals nationwide. Through the Malasakit Center program, indigent patients can more easily access medical assistance from various government agencies, while the feeding initiative seeks to provide immediate support to patients, watchers, and health workers.

“Hindi man kalakihan ang naitutulong nito, ang mahalaga ay may naiaabot tayong suporta sa mga nangangailangan. Patuloy lang tayong magtutulungan at magmamalasakit sa isa’t isa,” Go said.

“Patuloy akong magseserbisyo sa mga Pilipino dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at naniniwala ako na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo sa Diyos,” he added.
