Port of Davao completes delivery of 732 abandoned ‘balikbayan’ boxes to OFWs in Davao Region

DAVAO CITY- Some 732 ‘balikbayan’ boxes abandoned by unscrupulous freight forwarders at Port of Davao here have already been delivered to the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, according to Bureau of Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno on Wednesday afternoon, April 8, 2026.

Nepomuce during his visit in Port of Davao said the accomplishment forms part of the nationwide effort to expedite the release of abandoned  balikbayan boxes following the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. 

He said with the President’s support and Finance Secretary Frederick Go, the government implemented door-to-door delivery of abandoned balikbayan boxes, adding the OFWs received their packages without any additional cost.

Nepomuceno assured  the agency will continue to prioritize the welfare of the OFWs and remains fully committed to delivering timely, reliable, and people-centered service.

A total of 35,549 abandoned balikbayan boxes  across all ports in the country have already been delivered.

Nepomuceno recognized the Port of Davao under  District Collector Maita Acevedo for completing all deliveries  through effective coordination and timely implementation.

The BOC vows to continue to expedite  the remaining deliveries nationwide while strengthening  safeguards to prevent  similar incidents .

Nepomuceno reminds the public  to transact  only with  legitimate and accredited consolidators  and to remain vigilant  against fraudulent  service providers.

Meanwhile, some OFWs thanked the BOC for facilitating  the release and delivery of their balikbayan boxes.
