Construction of Cotabato’s key economic catalysts CAIP, CMA in full swing: Gov. Mendoza

The construction of the Cotabato Agro-Industrial Park (CAIP) and the Central Mindanao Airport (CMA), two of Cotabato Province’s flagship projects is now in full swing and nearing completion, Governor Emmylou J. Taliño-Mendoza announced during her State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Tuesday (March 24).

Speaking before constituents at The Basket, Provincial Capitol Compound in Amas, Kidapawan City, Mendoza emphasized that the CAIP and CMA “will not only promote agriculture but will also serve as gateways for tourism.”

Mendoza reported that the P32.6-million site development and the P264-million runway of the CMA have already been completed. The airport project has secured a total budget of P1.2 billion from national and local sources. It is located in Barangay Tawan-Tawan, M’lang, North Cotabato.

Construction of other CMA components is ongoing, including the P24-million administration building, P8.5-million fire station, P86-millioncontrol tower, P13.9-million powerhouse, and P8.5-million water system.

“The Cotabato Agro-Industrial Park and Central Mindanao Airport projects will open wider business opportunities and fast-track the distribution and accessibility of agricultural products to both local and global markets,” Mendoza said.

Meanwhile, the CAIP has secured a P271.2-million budget. Ongoing works include the P24.9-million perimeter fence, P44.9-million road network (Phase 1), P2.9-million water tank and pump system, P10-millionguardhouse and gate with perimeter fence, and P3.5-million powerhouse.

Preparations are also underway for Phase 2 of the road network, along with the electrification of the perimeter fence, installation of lighting, and expansion of the water distribution system.

Mendoza said the CAIP and CMA are expected to position Cotabato Province as a major economic hub in the region, boosting agricultural production, improving farmers’ livelihoods, enhancing connectivity, and strengthening local commerce. judy quiros
