No vehicles during Araw ng Dabaw Civic Parade: City Council

Members of the 21st Davao City Council passed a resolution urging all the participants in the Araw ng Dabaw Civic Parade on March 28 to join on foot and to restrict the use of gasoline, diesel, oil powered vehicles and electric vehicles or EVs during the entirety of the activity.

First District Councilor Attorney J. Melchor  who authors the said resolution said the initiative aims to highlight  the importance of saving or judiciously  using the same due to the insufficiency of gasoline  and other oil products has spiked  price thereof over and above  normal levels  and consequently resulted  in the uncontrollable  rise of the price of prime commodities almost beyond reach.

According to Quitain, the on-going  war in the Middle East  has seriously depleted  the supply of gasoline  and other oil products in the country  and the depletion has seriously  affected the Philippine economy and thus, it would  be prudent  to save and conserve these resources.

Participants coming from both  the private and public sector  numbering by  the hundreds join the Araw ng Dabaw civic parade and usually vehicles  are utilized  as floats  or showcased by various contingents of the parade.

The resolution also stated that there is a need for everyone  to help mitigate  or soften the impact  of the hardships  and difficulties in the wake  of the resulting  consequences by limiting the  usage of petroleum products  until such time the situation  improves or  goes back  to normal.

“Each Dabawenyo can, in his/her  own small way, contribute to the  mitigation  of hardship that  the country is confronted  with brought about by  the shortage and rising cost of fuel, commodities, utilities which includes electricity.

The Araw ng Dabaw is celebrated  yearly on March 1 and for this year 2026,  will end on its culminating  activity which is the Araw ng Dabaw Civic Parade on March 28.
