Aid reaches Davao del Norte flood victims as Senator Bong Go calls for disaster solutions

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go once again reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to stand with Filipinos in times of crisis, as his team extended assistance to families affected by recent flooding due to shear line in Asuncion, New Corella, Tagum City, and Carmen in Davao del Norte on February 26.

Go emphasized that no Filipino should feel abandoned in the aftermath of calamities, especially as families struggle to recover from losses caused by flooding and prolonged heavy rains.

In coordination with the respective local government officials, the team turned over grocery packs, shirts, pens, fans, and balls for the affected residents, helping ease their daily needs as recovery efforts continue.

“Noon pa man, pangako ko na kahit saang sulok kayo ng Pilipinas, basta kaya ng aking katawan at panahon. Sunog, putok ng bulkan, lindol, bagyo, pupuntahan po namin kayo,” Go assured.

“Bukas po ang aking opisina para sa inyong lahat at tutulong po ako sa abot ng aking makakaya,” he said.

Looking beyond immediate relief, Senator Go reiterated the urgent need to shift from reactive responses to long-term, preventive disaster solutions. He highlighted Republic Act No. 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which he principally authored and co-sponsored during the 19th Congress. The law mandates the establishment of permanent, disaster-resilient evacuation centers in all cities and municipalities, ensuring that displaced families have access to safe, dignified, and well-equipped shelters during calamities.

Go also emphasized the importance of passing Senate Bill No. 173, which he refiled in the 20th Congress, seeking to establish a Department of Disaster Resilience. The proposed department aims to consolidate and strengthen government efforts in disaster risk reduction, preparedness, response, and recovery, particularly in disaster-prone areas.

“Ako ang inyong Kuya Bong Go. Magseserbisyo ako sa inyong lahat dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo. Magtulungan tayo upang ilapit ang serbisyo ng gobyerno sa mga Pilipinong pinakanangangailangan,” Go said.
