The City Government of Davao has approved P2.7 million in financial assistance for local government units (LGUs) in Davao Oriental that were severely affected by the twin earthquakes that struck the province on October 10, 2025.

The financial aid was approved by the 21st City Council on October 28, 2025 and will be sourced from a portion of the city’s Quick Response Fund (QRF), which comprises 30 percent out of the 5 percent Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund.

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, Chairperson of Committee on Finance, Ways and Means, and Appropriations, said during the Pulong Pulong sa Dabawenyos on Tuesday, that the financial assistance will be given to the provincial government of Davao Oriental, four of its towns and the City of Mati.

β€œThe City Government of Davao approved Php 2.7 million financial aid forΒ  Davao Oriental. So, Php1 million will go to the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental, Php 500,000 will go to City of Mati, then Php300,000 will go to Tarragona, Municipality of Manay, followed by Municipality of Caraga and Municipality of Baganga that are heavily affected. And this is through the assessment of Disaster council and coordination with the respective Disaster Council of different municipalities and the provincial disaster of Davao Oriental” he said.Β 

Dayanghirang also added that Davao City currently holds an available budget of Php 204,075,187 and is financially capable to handle emergency situations.

Davao Oriental has declared a state of calamity following the magnitude 7.6 and 6.8 earthquakes that caused extensive infrastructure damage and displaced hundreds of residents.Β 

Prior to the approval of the aid for Davao Oriental, the City Government of Davao had already extended Php 3.9 million in financial assistance to earthquake-affected areas in Cebu province. CIO
