The combined forces from the 25th and 60th Infantry Battalions under 1001st Infantry (Pag-asa) Brigade, the 67th Infantry Battalion under 701st Infantry Brigade, and military intelligence units, encountered the fleeing members of NPA-Komisyong Mindanao (KOMMID) who are continuously evading the government forces by trying to seek refuge in Agusan del Sur.
Komisyon Mindanao (KOMMID) is the central nervous system of CPP-NPA-NDF in Mindanao. It provided significant funding and logistical support to the national movement through revolutionary taxation, extortion from mining, plantations, and other businesses
Philippine Army's 1001st Brigade reported the encounter resulted in the death of an unidentified CTG member and the surrender of 11 lie-low members.
The military also recovered an M16 rifle, and two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The surrenders yielded a total of 15 firearms, two IEDs, and several subversive documents.
The operations stemmed from the ongoing exploitation of intelligence derived from the arrest of eight armed and surrendered Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) Executive Committee leaders and members of the Jaguar unit that were apprehended at a checkpoint in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur last June 13, 2025.
The successful operations have been attributed to the timely information provided by former rebels and the community of Brgy. Sayon in Santa Josefa, proven to be vital in preventing CTG infiltration efforts within the joint operations area of the brigades under the 10th Infantry Division (10ID).
Brigadier General Felix Ronnie B Babac, 1001st Brigade commander, said the intensified military operations are part of the unit's commitment to sustain the insurgency-free area of the brigade and support the thrust of 10ID to achieve total victory on dismantling CTG remnants in its AOR.
"The peace we are experiencing, that we built together is not through chance and not through shortcuts; it is through sleepless nights, tireless days, courageous choices and unshakable partnership", Babac said.
"We cannot afford to go back to the time when insurgency was rampant, when their deceptive narratives often exploited the vulnerable sectors, instilling fear and intimidation. We will remain steadfast to sustain the gains of an insurgency-free area", Babac further said.
Our total victory against KOMMID not only undermines the operational viability of the entire communist insurgency in Mindanao but can be considered a major strategic defeat of the whole CPP-NPA-NDF organization and leadership.
