4 hurt in bus collision in Mati City

A vehicular collision involving two passenger buses—one operated by LCI and the other by Bachelor Express—resulted in minor injuries to four individuals Friday morning in Pulang Pantad, Barangay Badas.

The incident occurred at around 9:01 AM and was immediately reported by Radyo Birada correspondent Mario Lamodoc. Upon arrival, responders from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), PNP Mati, and Public Safety personnel found the LCI bus had collided head-on into the side of the Bachelor Express bus. Both vehicles were surrounded by concerned passengers and bystanders.

Emergency personnel used a bullhorn to identify and locate casualties, ultimately attending to four injured passengers.

Patient 1 was identified as Antonio Villaber, 46, of General Santos City. He sustained abrasions on the left side of his face and right arm. First responders assessed and assisted him to the ambulance, where his wounds were cleaned and dressed. Villaber refused further medical treatment and signed a waiver.

Patient 2, Paul Malabago, 58, also of General Santos City, suffered an abrasion on his left cheek. He received similar treatment on-site and also refused transport to a medical facility after signing a waiver.

Patient 3, Elsie Cosing Monis, 49, from Barangay Kenram, Isulan, exhibited signs of dizziness, vomiting, and emotional distress. Her vital signs were monitored, and no major injuries were found. She was advised to remain calm and breathe steadily. Monis was transported to the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center (DOPMC-NOD) for further medical evaluation.

Patient 4, Jim Salgado Sobrecarey, 74, from Prk. Maligaya, Langka, Lupon, sustained multiple abrasions and lacerations on his forehead, right ear, elbow, and leg. Responders controlled the bleeding and stabilized the wounds before transporting him to DOPMC-NOD for continued care.

Authorities confirmed that two patients were brought to the hospital while the other two declined further medical attention. An investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
