Coast Guard responds to report of missing fisherman in Davao Oriental

San Isidro, Davao Oriental – The Coast Guard Sub-Station in San Isidro has launched a search and rescue operation for a missing fisherman, Mr. Eldivino Liwakat, 55 years old, who was reported missing on the evening of December 10, 2024.

According to an initial report, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of San Isidro informed the Coast Guard about the incident at around 5:45 PM. Coast Guard personnel immediately proceeded to Purok Tinlagan 2, Barangay Talisay, San Isidro, to verify the report.

Information gathered from Mrs. Marilou Liwakat, the wife of the missing fisherman, revealed that Mr. Liwakat was last seen on December 9, 2024, at 2:00 PM, wearing a red sleeveless t-shirt. He departed from the shoreline aboard his blue motorized banca, provided by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), to conduct a fishing venture in the waters off Davao Gulf. He was expected to return the following morning at 9:00 AM but failed to do so.

Concerned local fishermen, led by Mr. Jolito Abrigo, conducted a search operation starting at 1:00 PM on December 10, 2024. Despite their efforts, which ended at 4:45 PM, they were unable to locate Mr. Liwakat.

The Coast Guard Sub-Station personnel coordinated with nearby coastal barangays, neighboring Coast Guard units, and fishermen operating in the Davao Gulf to assist in locating the missing individual. The search and rescue operation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao urges all seafarers and coastal communities to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information about the missing fisherman to the nearest Coast Guard station. Here are the details of the missing person:
