NPA leader in Southeastern Mindanao, 2 others nabbed in Cotabato City

DAVAO CITY– Three ranking leaders of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) operating in Southern Mindanao were arrested at Mabini Street, Bagua 3, Cotabato City on November 16.

Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division in its report said the arrested individuals include Ruel Villanueva Cabales, alias Aman, Secretary of the SOuthern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC), Catherine Apares Guinoo, alias Dewen, Deputy Secretary and member of the SMRC Executive Committee (EXECOM), and Alma Mae Masalon, alias Memie, an NPA-SMRC member.

The arrests were made through the enforcement of warrants of arrest for various charges including illegal possession, manufacture, and acquisition of firearms , ammunition and explosives, destructive arson, violation against or Intimidation of persons.

The arrested NPA personalities also faced attempted murder , crime against international law genocide, and other crime genocide, and other crime against humanity.

Major General Allan Hambala, Commander of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division commended the collaborative efforts of the military and the law enforcement agencies involved. 

Hambala emphasized that the apprehension of these notorious NPA leaders marks a significant blow to the evading remnants of SMRC in Region 11.

“This achievement underscores the dedication and synergy of our military and law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and security,” Hambala said.

The arrest of these key individuals significantly contributed to the total defeat of SMRC and to a safer Southeastern Mindanao, according to Hambala.
