70 Wheelchairs Donated to Children with Cerebral Palsy in Mati City

Mati City- On October 20, 2024, a life-changing initiative unfolded in Mati City as approximately 70 customized wheelchairs are distributed to children with cerebral palsy.

This milestone is part of the city’s Community-Based Rehabilitation Program and aims to significantly improve the mobility and quality of life for the children, giving them greater access to opportunities and inclusion.

The wheelchairs, along with other vital assistive devices, were shipped from the United States three months ago and are tailored specifically to the needs of the children.

The project was made possible through the collaboration of several key sponsors, including the Fenixia Foundation Inc., led by Ms. Lisa Valerio; Hope Haven West, under Mr. Lonny Davis; and Golden Sea Custom Brokerage and Logistics Services Inc., represented by Ms. Dana Mikhaela Pellerin.

Mati City Mayor Michelle N. Rabat, who received the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude to the sponsors, underscoring the far-reaching impact the project will have on the lives of the children.

“This donation is more than just a gift of mobility; it is a symbol of hope and inclusion. With these customized wheelchairs, our children with disabilities will have a greater opportunity to actively engage in society, in line with our commitment to inclusive governance,” Mayor Rabat said.

The initiative reflects Mati City’s ongoing dedication to empowering children with disabilities, ensuring that they are given the necessary tools to thrive.

Mayor Rabat highlighted how partnerships with international organizations and local stakeholders are key in building a supportive and accessible community for all.

“This project is a testament to the power of collaboration,” Rabat added. “By working together, we can ensure that no child is left behind, regardless of ability.”

The donation is a major step forward in the city’s efforts to provide comprehensive care and assistance to children with disabilities, further solidifying Mati City’s commitment to inclusivity and progress.

The group also visited Bacolod City earlier to donate specialized wheelchairs as well.
