Davao City Police Office (DCPO) identified the victim as Justine May Villaroja, a resident of Barangay Buhangin this city while his boyfriend is Patrolman Alvin John Tayamin, active member of PNP assigned at Mandug Police Station.
Tayamin voluntarily surrendered shortly after the incident.
Investigation revealed that the two figured in an altercation before the suspect shot the victim in the face.
Responding police operatives have seized the 9mm pistol used by the suspect in allegedly killing his girlfriend.
DCPO spokesman Captain Hazel Tuazon in a press conference said police eyed jealousy as motive of the killing.
The suspect is now detained and may face charges.
DCPO chief Colonel Hansel Marantan in a statement said the suspect has already been restricted from duty at the station pending a thorough investigation.
“While I am prepared to take full responsibility if this incident is found to be connected to the official duties of our personnel, initial indications suggest a personal matter was involved. However, this in no way justifies the loss of a civilian life, “Marantan said.
Marantan directed the Mandug Chief of Police to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the case and ensure that appropriate charges are filed against the police officer.
Marantan expressed sincere condolences to the grieving family as he extend heartfelt apologies to the victim's family for the tragic event.
He also assures the family that justice is served for the victim and their loved ones.
