Pilipinas Sambo spends All Saints and Souls Days in Japan to train for overseas competitions

DAVAO CITY---The Pilipinas Sambo Federation is doing everything to ensure they perform well in the forthcoming World Championships in November in Armenia and the Southeast Asian Championship in December in Malaysia.

The Pilipinas Sambo Federation, led by its president Davaeono Paolo Tancontian is currently training in Japan, considered the mecca of martial arts, to ensure that they can do well in their next two overseas competitions.

Tancontian said the Japan training is very important for the team, which is why they decided to spend their All Saints, Souls Days in the country of the rising sun.

He said Japan is also important for his family, including his two children, Sydney Sy Tancontian and Chino Sy Tancontian, since their judo descendants are from Japan.

He added that in Japan, they will do everyday training at the Kamaguchi Saitama Sports Center under the guidance of Sambo Master Tanaka and Jun Morita Sensei.

Moreover, Tancontian said her daughter Sydney will compete in the +80 kilogram, his son Chino at +100 kilogram, and Godwin Langbayan in the +60 kilogram in the World Championship.

The overseas training of the group is made possible with the support from Sen. Bong Go, Senator Ronald Bato dela Rosa, and Philippine Sports Commission. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
