EJ Obiena wins second place in Diamond League before competing in Asian Games.

Filipino pole vault champion EJ Obiena won second place at the Prefontaine Classic of the Diamond League on Monday morning (Manila time) at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Obiena successfully jumped over a bar that was 5. 82 meters high on his second try. However, he was not able to clear a bar that was 6. 02 meters high after three attempts. However, the Philippine competitor was able to secure second place, right behind their longtime rival Armand Duplantis from Sweden. Duplantis managed to break his own record and set a new world record.

Duplantis jumped over a bar set at 6. 23 meters, which was higher than his previous best of 6. 22 meters that he achieved in France in February.

Sam Kendricks from the United States won the bronze medal by jumping over a height of 5. 72m.

Obiena won a silver medal before competing in the Asian Games, where he is expected to have a good chance of winning the gold medal.

Obiena will represent the country as a flag bearer along with skateboarder Margielyn Didal in the Asiad on September 30th.
