DAVAO CITY- A Filipino rock and roll band, Radical de Fender has launched its debut album called “Alipin” on Friday (Feb. 10) at Seattle’s Dream Cafe, Arellano St., this city.

Radical de Fender  founded in December 2018 hails from the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) whose band name was a result of word integrations, fitting of the group’s interests and principles.

According to the group, the word Radical came out as they are advocating for continuous change and Fender ( most popular guitar in history) because of their love for instruments especifically guitars.

Radical de Fender first album consists of 10 songs mostly from iconic local bands like Sampaguita and Asin.

The band, which consists of their lead vocalist Jasmin Cabilla, already performed with some national artists during big shows and other local events such as Hale, Yano, Siakol, Agaw Agimat, Nairud, Tatot, The Dukes, and Rocksteddy.

They also started doing gigs in barangays and other local events.

Aside from Cabilla, who is also lyricist and songwriter, other members of the group include Bhong Atillo, male vocalist; Karlo Ortiz, key boardist; Jessie Sultan, lead guitarist; Al Delmores, bassist; and the group’s drummer Ken Bryan Montaño.

The songs included in the album are Selpon, Alipin, Bulkan, Maritess, Hagod, Ramdam, Pahina, Sukli, Walang hihigit, Tatag, and Muli’t muli.

All these songs were written and composed out of their own experiences.

The song “Ramdam” was written in memory of their friend as a tribute and salutation to the person who has made life easier for everyone. The song is their way of embracing the loss.

“Pahina” which is written and arranged by Cabilla represents pages of human life and human daily grinds. It echoes the reality of life.

“Walang hihigit.” The single was born in a time of pandemic, where members of the band were quarantined, and all were in their lowest selves. A composition that gives one a serious thought of how to trust God and let not their hearts be troubled. This reminded them that there is only one all knowing and powerful and that is God.

“Bulkan.” The song was composed when the group was doing a music video for the song “Sukli” in Barangay Kapatagan, Davao del Sur, at the foot of Mt. Apo, the highest peak and the famous climbing destination of the Philippines. Cabilla was inspired to compose the song as she felt the marvels of the mountain and was amazed by the sacred and pure embrace of nature that blankets the place.
