P1-M suspected smuggled cigarettes seized at Davao checkpoint

More than a million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes were seized by the police and military in a checkpoint at Sirawan, Toril, Davao City around 12:40 early morning Tuesday (Oct. 18).

In a report from Task Force Davao, the authorities confiscated 2,050 reams of imported cigarettes valued at P1.025 million from four cargo delivery crew onboard a white Izuzu Forward Truck.

Authorities identified the suspects as Arturo T Albania, 55; Glen M Lumapas,46; Alvin John C Elorcha, 27; and, Nolven S Reponte, 31. The suspects are all residents of Sinawilan, Matanao Davao Del Sur.

The suspects and evidence were immediately turned over to Toril Police Station for filing of charges in relation to violation of Republic Act No. 4712, an act amending certain sections of Tariff and customs code of the Philippines.

Colonel Darren E. Comia, Task Force Davao commander commended the troops for their diligence and truthfulness to their duties, anytime of the day.

Comia also reminded the public that its primary mandate is on anti and counter terrorism. However, he said, it is still their duty to filter illegal contrabands entering the city amid the intensified border control point operations.
