Davaoeno sports official tapped as Deputy Chef de Mission in Cambodia SEA Games

DAVAO CITY---The Philippine Olympic Committee, has tapped Davaoeno and Pilipinas Sambo president Paolo Tancontian as the Deputy Chef de Mission (DCDM) for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia in 2023.

POC president Pres. Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino made the move since Tancontian is a reliable sports official who cares for the athletes since he was a bemedalled athlete in his younger years.

As DCDM, Tancotian is tasked to take care of the needs of the SEA Games athletes to ensure they can perform well in their chosen sports.

In a Facebook post, Tancontian is very grateful and happy to be given the task of leading the SEA Games contingent in Cambodia next year.

"I've been an athlete, coach, and sports official for a total of 40 years. I am also currently the President of PILIPINAS SAMBO. I believe my experience can provide guidance and assistance to our national teams that will be competing, particularly in martial arts and individual sports that can bring multiple medals for our beloved country," Tancontian said.

The Philippines finished fourth overall in the 31st Southeast Asian Games, held in Vietnam from May 12 to 23. This was one place short of their target.

The nation won 52 gold medals, 70 silver medals, and 104 bronze medals, finishing in second place to the host nation of Vietnam, which collected 446 medals altogether and won 205 gold medals, 125 silver medals, and 116 bronze.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
