42 more undocumented guns stenciled in Basilan town

DAVAO CITY- Forty-two more loose firearms were stenciled in a ceremony held at Akbar Gymnasium in Upper Bato-Bato, Basilan town on Thursday (Nov. 25).

Major Andrew Linao, the spokesman of Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) said that the loose firearms consist of 22 Garand rifles, five M16A1 rifles, 12 caliber 45 pistols, two 9mm pistols, and an R15.

He said the firearms are owned by members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team.

Akbar is the third municipality that conducted ceremonial stenciling of loose firearms in Basilan.

The stenciling activity is part of the government operatives’ stiff implementation of the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms in the said province.

Major General Alfredo Rosario, Jr., WestMinCom chief commended the Joint Task Force Basilan for the success of this new endeavor.

“We attribute this success to the cooperation of the local governments and the Basileños who sincerely support our campaign,” Rosario said.

On Wednesday, (Nov. 24), the members of the 68th Infantry Battalion and Local Government officials of Tuburan town in Basilan also held ceremonial stenciling of 75 unregistered firearms composed of 52 M16 rifles, 12 caliber 45 pistols, 2 Ingrams, and 9 Garand rifles.
