10th ID soldiers donate aircon units to elderlies in Tagum City

DAVAO CITY- Soldiers from the 10th Infantry Division donated three air-conditioning units to the Home for the Aged at Visayan Village, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Captain Mark Anthony Tito, the spokesman of 10th ID said the donation came from the proceeds of the golf tournament for a cause which they spearheaded on July 27. He said they were able to raise a total of P100,000 from the tournament.

The tournament was among the civic activities of the 10th ID in its 26th founding anniversary.

Tito said 71 elderlies in the facility will benefit from the donation.

The air-conditioning units were received by Lawyer Vanessa B. Goc-ong, Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 11 and center head Venus Valenzuela in a ceremony held  Monday (August 8).

Goc-ong thanked the soldiers for initiating the project which benefits the elderlies.

She said, “Mas madalas kasi, kami sa DSWD ang nag po-provide, masyadong touching na naiisip niyo rin po yung DSWD at ang mga elders.”

10ID Commander Major General Nolasco A Mempin, for his part, said that 10ID helps not only those affected by the Communist Terrorist Groups but in every sectors of the society as well.

“I hope that these air conditioned units will give comfort to the elderly here at the Home for the Aged facility. May we all remember that the 10ID will always be ready to help and support with the best of our abilities," Mempin said.

Tito said 10th ID is committed to bring joy to the less privileged individuals and create a positive relationship between them and the elderlies.

This is also their way to express gratitude for its accomplishments over the years as it celebrates its founding anniversary, Tito said.
