PH wins 15 golds in the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship

DAVAO CITY---The Philippines stomped its class in the recent Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which ended on July 22.

The young Filipino weightlifters won 15 gold medals in the tournament participated in by some of the top young weightlifters in the world.

The medal hauls were provided by weightlifters from Zamboanga City and Bohol.

The top medal performer from the team was 17-year-old Zamboangena Rose Jean Ramos, who won four gold medals, one silver ,and one bronze.

Ramos topped the women’s 45kg category in Snatch (70kgs.), Clean & Jerk (83kgs.), and overall (153kgs.) to win the Youth division’s championship title.

Snatch added a fourth gold medal from Snatch (70kgs.) in the Junior division. The bronze medal came from the Clean and Jerk (83kgs.), and the silver medal from the overall lift of 153kgs.

Vanessa Sarno of Bohol bagged three gold medals.

Rosegie Ramos, 19, also won 3 golds.

Another Zamboanga native, Angeline Colonia, 15, won two golds and one silver.
