VIDEO: Davao’s Nisperos carries Ateneo de Manila University to stepladder semis win vs UST

DAVAO CITY—Twenty-two-year-old towering Davaoeña spiker Faith Nisperos carried the Ateneo de Manila University women's volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 win Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in their stepladder semis match.

Nisperos was a woman on a mission in their game as she scored 23 points from 17 kills, four aces, and two blocks.

Ateneo faces arch-rival La Salle Lady Spikers with the win in another stepladder semis match.

The Davaoeno is playing well in the UAAP season 84 volleyball tournament since she is the second-leading scorer at the end of the elimination round.

Nisperos tallied 267 points after 14 games to place second behind  Eya Laure of the University of Santo Tomas Tigers.

Nisperos, an open spiker, is a member of the  Philippine Women’s Volleyball Team that played in the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, last October 1 to 7, 2021.

She is also a former volleyball varsity player at Ateneo de Davao University in grade school and transferred to National University in high school.

Earlier, Nisperos scored 15 points in the two games where he played in the tournament.

Although the Philippines is not doing well in the international volleyball tournament, Philippine volleyball experts expect a bright hope for the country in future volleyball competitions the way Nisperos and other young members of the Philippine women’s volleyball team.

Nisperos showed an impressive form in spiking against older and taller opponents from other Asian countries.

Aside from Nisperos, Tim Tiamzon, a native of Koronadal City, South Cotabato, and former opposite spiker of Dela Salle University Women’s Volleyball Team, is also part of the team and is playing well as well in the tournament. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
