Masbate City unveils statue of slain FEU football star

DAVAO CITY---A year since his untimely death, the city government of Masbate has unveiled a statue to honor Far Eastern University high school football star Kieth Absalon who died when suspected members of the New People's Army detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) on June 6, 2021.

The city government built the statue showing Absalon kicking a soccer ball at the sports complex of Masbate.

The formal unveiling of Absalon's statue was personally witnessed by his family and local and military officials in the area.

The city government of Masbate hoped the statue would remind people that a former UAAP juniors Most Valuable Player with so much potential died due to the atrocity of the NPA.

It can be recalled that Absalon, 21, was biking with his family when the IED made by the NPA exploded and killed him.

Before his death, Absalon captured multiple UAAP juniors championships with Far Eastern University (FEU) and even won MVP honors during Season 78.

His other junior accolades include the Best Defender and Best Striker awards.

Football aficionados all over the Philippines mourned Absalon's death and hoped justice could be served against the communist rebels who cut short his life. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
