Sydney Sy Tancontian wins gold in 2022 Asian Sambo Championships

DAVAO CITY---After winning a silver medal in the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, Davaoeno Sambo Practioner Sydney Sy Tancontian won a gold medal in 2022 Asian Sambo Championships on June 4 in Jouneih, Lebanon.

Tancontian, who won second place in the +87kg Women's Kurash on May 11 in the SEA Games, ruled the +80KG women’s sport sambo event in the tournament participated in by some of the top Sambo practitioners in Asia.

The University of Santo Tomas Judo varsity beat Arailym Abenova of Kazakhstan to win the coveted gold in the senior division.

It is the second gold for Tancontian in the same event since she also won the gold in the 2019 Asian Juniors Sambo in Mongolia.

Pilipinas Sambo President Paolo Tancontian is proud of the gold medal performance of her daughter.

"Winning in a competition where rated World athletes lurk around is something worth celebrating. Sydney's triumph reflects the programs of Pilipinas Sambo that are exceptionally supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
