DAVAO CITY: Two of the four members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) who surrendered to the 66th Infantry Battalion at Brgy.Coronobe, Maragusan, Davao de Oro recently were children.

Captain Mark Anthony Tito , spokesperson of the 10th Infantry “Agila” Division based in Mawab, Davao de Oro, identified the young NPA combatants as “Macoy”, 14 years old and “Dondon”, 15.

The other surrenderers were “Jomari”, 18 years old, a Squad Political Guide and “Vina”, 19 years old, the Squad Supply Officer.

Tito said these former NPA rebels were regular members of the NPA’s Regional Operations Command, Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (ROC, SMRC).

10th ID Commander Maj. Gen. Nolasco A Mempin hailed the surrender of these rebels and lauded his troops for their intensified intelligence and focused-military operations that led to this significant accomplishment.

"To the members of the communist terrorist group (CTG), stop exploiting the Filipino youth. Surrender now and abandon the armed struggle that victimized thousands of lives," Mempin said.

10th ID has already recorded 121 rescued minors used by the CTG in their armed struggle since 2016.

The military is now in coordination with the Social Welfare Development Office in Davao de Oro for appropriate action for the surrendered minors.
