Santo Tomas, Davao Light ink pact for electronics laboratory

DAVAO CITY —The local government of Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte led by Mayor Ernesto “Tatay Erning” Evangelista has forged partnership with Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light) along its social development arm, Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. for the establishment of an electronics laboratory in the town.

Evangelista in a statement said the municipal government is considering to offer the Electrical Installation and Maintenance Course as one of the Technical-Vocational (TechVoc) Program to be offered in the Training Center Ni Tomas at Fd. Rd. 9, Brgy. Tibal-og, this municipality.

“Atoang gina-maximize ug ginahatagan og importansya ang public-private partnership nato sa private sector. Ug dako atong pasalamat sa Davao Light ug Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. kay nakig-alayon sila sa atong programa para sa katawhang Tomasino,” he said.

Evangelista said the Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) Course is already in the pipeline for 2022 as this course will be offered in the LGU-owned Training Center Ni Tomas.

Last week, Municipal Administrator lawyer Elisa Evangelista-Lapiña met with Davao Light Head Panabo Branch Paul Michael Cazar and Reputation Enhancement Manager Fermin Edillon to finalize the proposal as the EIM course is expected to attract more trainees.  Such course will be equipped with basic electrical tools and personal protective equipment such as hard hats and leather gloves.

Evangelista-Lapiña also said that Davao Light and its social development arm, Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. made a commitment that they would likely provide equipment for the installation of fire alarm and CCTV systems, motion sensors, and telephone intercom.

“We intend to implement all these by phasing kay need nato una ihan-ay una ang mga programa na i-offer sa atoang training center then, we will identify the set of trainers na accredited ni TESDA so that we can operate on our own with TESDA’s help,” she said.

Evangelista-Lapiña said the local government is thankful for the generosity of Davao Light and Aboitiz since they are their constant partners for its inclusive programs.

" This is not just about engagement with them as this is also an opportunity to educate our people about sa electrical safety sa ilang balay, ” she said.
